Discord is an application that essentially creates a dedicated place to chat that is by invite only. Projects create their place to chat which is called a server. Within this server, different channels can be created for more specific topics which help to focus chats and make it easier to find information. Some of these channels can also be token gated which only allows access if you hold a certain NFT or role. As well as the chat channels, there are voice channels and stage channels that can host events.
Discord is like a one-stop shop. Here is a list of some of the things you can do:
In summary, the BFF Discord is a great place to connect with the team and community, share ideas, learn together, and get project information. Discord servers are also a great way to get a feel for projects you may be interested in. You can find information on social platforms like Twitter or Instagram, or receive SMS notifications but it’s not as immersive as being an active member of the Discord server.
You can download Discord on your desktop from here, or download it from the app store on your mobile device.
The first thing you need to do when joining Discord is set up your security and follow some guidelines. We recommend that everyone should follow these steps:
Desktop: To change your PFP on desktop, click the User Settings ⚙️ in the lower left corner of the app, then select the Edit button under My Account, and upload an image.
Mobile: Swipe left to your channel view, and check out the tab bar at the bottom of your screen. The rightmost tab will take you to User Settings (it should look like your PFP if you’ve added one, and a Discord logo if you haven’t). From there, tap on your profile avatar to upload a new image.
If you know which Discord Server you would like to join you can find the invite in many places. For example, you can find the BFF Discord invite on our website or in our Linktree which can be found on our profile page on Twitter and Instagram.
Once you have joined the Discord Server you will be able to start going through the verification process to gain full access. This verification process is to protect the community and stop bots from entering that may have the intention to spam or scam.
Here’s how it works at BFF
Step 1 Join Here: You will need to read the text and make the correct selection to receive the “non-bot” role.
Step 2 Rules: You need to read and accept our server rules.
Step 3 Welcome Page: You will find a welcome message and some information to help you navigate around the BFF server
Make sure you come and say “Hi” in the General Chat Channel and ask any questions you may have. Our community and team of moderators are here to help and would love to get to know you!
Take a good look around. Every Discord server will have different channels to explore, but some common ones include Official Links, Announcements, FAQs, Roadmap, Scam Alerts, General Chat, Stage, and many more!
If you need some help and would like to speak directly to the team you can open a “ticket”. This creates a private channel between you and the team. At BFF we may ask you to open a 💌 #support-tickets to provide 1:1 help if required.
You will find that a lot of Discord Servers have locked channels that can only be seen after you verify that you are holding their token. This provides exclusive content and chat channels to holders.
You can verify ownership of your BFF Friendship Bracelet or You pfp in the 🟪#verify-token channel. Follow the prompts and instructions that Collab.Land provides within that channel. Do not click on any links if they come in DMs from Collab.Land as they will be a scam and from a fake account.
Managing server notifications is very important to do. You can potentially receive notifications on every channel, on every server you are in and it will drive you crazy! There will be channels where you will want to keep notifications turned on so you don’t miss important information, such as Announcements, Scam Alerts, and others of your choosing. There are different options available for managing your server notifications.
Option 1: Server Notification Settings - This is also a blanket mute for all channels but offers the option to choose different levels of notifications. The Suppress @everyone and @here option will disable these mentions on the entire server.
Option 2: Channel Notification Settings - You can mute categories, and all the channels contained in them, or individual channels for more customization. To change your settings, right-click on the category or channel to make your selection. We suggest having “All Messages” enabled on Announcements and Scam Alerts channels.
Option 3: Server Mute - This is a blanket mute. It will mute all notifications and all channels in the selected server with the exception of @everyone mentions.
Keeping your Discord organized and managing your servers will make it easier to navigate between your servers. You can move your servers into any order you like or create folders to group your servers together. You may choose to create folders for groups you are active in, hold an NFT in, resources for information, for general interest, etc. When you are in a lot of servers this makes keeping track of those important notifications a lot easier. You can see at a glance which have notifications you want to have a look at or which you want to clear.
You can see at a glance which channels have new activity. The channels appear gray and turn white when there are messages that you have not yet seen. It is possible to show only the channels that have unread messages in a category and you do this by expanding or collapsing categories by clicking on the category heading. Changing your notification settings will allow you to customize each channel to your preference to never miss important information or messages you have been mentioned in or replied to. A good starting point would be to change notifications for the server to “Only @mentions” and then you can change some channels, such as Announcements and Scam Alerts, to be notified for “All Messages”. If you are not interested at all in a channel, you can mute it and it won’t pop up with unread messages when the category is collapsed.
At the top right of the Discord App when you are in a server you will find the search function. You can find your mentions, or messages from a specific user by using “@username”. You can also search for keywords. For example, if you type the words “Perk Shop” and hit enter/search, you will find all mentions of these words. Searches always show the most recent activity first.
You can also search in all servers you are in for channels, mentions, friends, and more. Use the shortcut CTRL+K to bring up the search window and type whatever you are looking for.
We hope you have fun finding the many other features and shortcuts that you can use on Discord. If you have any questions the team and community at BFF are ready to help you. You can also find more information here.
Happy Discording and we look forward to welcoming you into the BFF Discord Server!
