This is Meet A BFF, the series where we ask loyal BFF holders across our BFF Bracelet and You collections to share what a day in their life — or multiple days — looks like as a Web3 enthusiast with interests and expertise outside of cryptoland as well. Have an idea of someone we should profile next? Email us at hello@mybff.com.
6:33 am
GM! My youngest is always a very reliable alarm clock. His very insistent pulling on my arm and his sweet little voice screaming in my ear: “I'm hungry!,”wakes me up. Not the nicest start into the day. But there is no alternative. Tired, I stumble into the kitchen. Banana? No! Bread? No? An apple it should be. But with an owl's face, please. My fault. Why did I ever have the creative idea to make him an apple with a cute owl face? Since then, it always has to be that way. Life with a three-year-old. The struggle is real.
7:02 am
Coffee! Finally! I scroll through my Twitter. Engage with like-minded accounts. See beautiful new artworks from my web3 frens. Like, comment, retweet. Check Discord and my inbox. Sometimes there is this famous email from OpenSea in the mornings. Where it says: “Congratulations, your item has been sold!” Unfortunately, that did not happen that often in the past weeks. And not today. Crypto winter is real.
7:12 am
Outside, the sun starts to shine and it’s a beautiful day outside of my apartment. Right now we are living on an island in Spain called Mallorca. My view goes to the beautiful and imposant cathedral. For two years, we are lucky to travel the world as digital nomads. Me, my husband and my three little kids. Right now we are settled here and our children go to an international school.
7:30 am
Ready to take the kids to school. While my husband prepares them I schedule my day: Admin work, creative work, productive work. All within 6 hours. 6 hours are the maximum I am able to work productively and until the kids come back from school. More work does not lead to anywhere for me. Also, we have chosen this lifestyle to have more quality time as a family and not overwork as we did back in Switzerland.
We have to drive them to their school. It’s a beautiful green oasis in the middle of Palma’s industry quarter.
8:33 am
I take a quick jog around my neighborhood to release stress and negative thoughts. Being a mother and running multiple businesses (my NFT project and my Social Media Marketing Agency) needs a lot of taking good care of my mental health. Eating healthy, meditating, doing exercises and taking enough breaks. With my NFT Project I want to address all these topics. To showcase struggles, but also make solutions visible.
9:30 am
Jogging done! Shower. My husband takes care of some household chores and takes care of our youngest while I gather some ideas for my new collection. I already have the topic in mind. But now is the time for conceptual work. I begin by writing down what topics I want to cover, how I want to talk about it on my social channels, what brands I want to involve by making collabs. I also do aquick browse through LinkedIn to do some research about who I want to talk with about future collaborations.
10:00 am
Time for some creative work! As soon as I draw the first line, I hear screaming. Mommy, mooooomyyyyyy!!” I hear my husband in the other room trying to calm down my youngest. But, there are times that only I am enough for him. He comes into my room. I soothe him. The only thing he wants is lying in my arms. My husband is grateful. This is an opportunity for him to take a break.
10:25 am
Back on the creative work. I already have a topic and a rough idea of how my new collection will come together, but still, I do not dive into the creative process just yet. To start my art, I need perfect timing and alignment. The rest comes while creating it. Oh, I had to learn that. Trust the process! You start with a sketch, and the sketch can feel like crap, but I need to remind myself, “keep going, keep going.” And at the end there is this beautiful artwork and sometimes I myself wonder how I was able to create it.
I love to create artworks that transport a message, a storytelling in its own. That you look at them and you don’t need more context, you just understand the message. But right now is not the time. Most of the drawings I do when my children sleep.
10:34 am
An email from another NFT project comes in. They want me to do an artwork for their soon launching metaverse. How exciting!! I take out some time to dive into that. I love that I am so free in my working schedule and that I am my own boss. That makes life so much easier!
11:14 am
I bought a course at Domestika, an online platform where you can learn all kinds of things. It’s about creating your own tarot deck. My goal for my new collection is to give every NFT holder (besides a lot of other perks) a tarot/card deck irl. So, let’s do this course and get inspired!
11:59 am
With two hours left until lunch —here in Spain everything is a bit different—I use this time to do some social media management for one of my web2 clients.
12:15 pm
Then a message comes in from my friend Sandra. She will support me in the future with the Social Media and Community Management. We have worked together in the past for a big Swiss company and she is just a perfect fit. We schedule a meeting together where I will introduce her into crypto, NFTs and my project.
12:29 pm
Back to social media. I schedule some posts for my clients and answer messages in my Twitter Inbox. I also prepare some Tweets for The Women Collective. The best time to do a GM Tweet is at 2pm my local time, as most of the NFT community lives in the US (although the European market is growing as well). And yes, GM Tweets are a thing. You have to do them. And you have to say GM to all of your Twitter frens. That’s an unspoken rule!
1:30 pm
Preparing to leave the house and pick up the kids. Today is a special day. We’re having lunch with our friends and will celebrate my 40th birthday! So, closing laptop and ready to go!
2:15 pm
Lunch at my favorite vegan restaurant in the north of the island. They have delicious vegan raps, bowls and salads. Just the right food for hot weather like today. While the kids play in the beautiful surroundings of the patio I have a chat with my friend. About sisterhood and how much we mothers need a stable community of like minded souls. As digital nomad families it is not always that easy to find support, we don’t have our parents with us, so we have to find other solutions on how to get some time off and get support.
4:00 pm
That was delicious! And the vegan chocolate brownie! I’m in heaven! But so full. We are heading to the beach. The weather here is crazy hot, 36 degrees celsius and the kids scream for ice cream and cold water. We spend the afternoon and early evening at the beach. Having a refreshing bath, eating ice cream and fruits until we head back home before it gets dark.
8:45 pm
Finally home! Two of the three kids are already sleeping. For me there is still some time to check my messages, inbox and reply to some Twitter comments and messages. Sometimes it is a curse and a blessing at the same time to have my work always with me. I had to learn to take good care of my social media usage. I try to have a conscious use of social media and also not be on the phone when I’m with my kids.
9:01 pm
Normally I do some creative or drawing work in the evenings when all kids are asleep. But today I am too tired.
9:15 pm
My oldest boy fell asleep. Finally! My husband and I drink a little glass of champagne, chat about the day and feel so blessed and happy - but we are tired! It was a busy and hot day. But just perfect. Soon we are ready for bed. Next day will start soon, with my favorite alarm clock ;-)
