Welcome to GM, BFF, a newsletter hitting your inbox every week with key insights from web3, crypto, our community and beyond. We’re looking for an interim Editor in Chief to fill in for me while I’m on mat leave. Sound like you? Learn more below.
What started as a friendship a decade ago between two new moms transformed into a partnership that is taking Web3 fashion to the next level.
Rebecca Minkoff and Michelle Reeves met about ten years ago in New York City shortly after having their first children. Now, the two fashion titans are working together on their second NFT collection with phygital perks that mints on October 12th.
Holders who mint one of 3,000 NFTs from the “Rebecca Minkoff X Mavion” Collection for .1 ETH will gain access to virtual design discussions with Minkoff and seasonal perks like gift cards and tickets to events.
They will also earn royalties off any future metaverse or gaming collaborations that come from the fashion items represented in their NFT.
“Fashion is a world that has been so cut off to the everyday person,” said MAVION Founder Michelle Reeves in our recent Twitter Space. “This is the NFT for anyone who loves fashion, for anyone who isn't satisfied with just sitting on the sidelines all the time, but wants to be a part of the discussion and help shape the design.”
Minkoff says she has always been first in line to test out new tech with everything from self checkout at her stores to QR codes in her namesake handbags. It became clear that Web3 was the next frontier last year when she sold out her first NFT collection in nine minutes.
“I love the potential for long term wealth accumulation for women and I love that it is, for lack of a better term, more than just selling a JPEG,” she said.
Minkoff and Reeves’ mint comes as several household fashion brands take their first steps into the Web3 waters as well. Just last week, Christian Louboutin integrated POAPs into their latest fashion show and Hugo Boss announced its first NFT collection and metaverse experience.
